Traditional agricultural practice of cultivating the ‘vite ad alberello’ (head-trained bush vines) of the community of Pantelleria

The Intergovernmental Committee of the UNESCO Convention on Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH - Intangible Cultural Heritage) session in Paris (26/11/2014) decided to inscribe:

“LA VITE AD ALBERELLO DI PANTELLERIA,” an agricultural practice that represents a unique example of its cultivation of vine, is transmitted through generations in the Pantelleria community. The tree is low and sheltered by a basin of land to allow the production of grapes and the life of the plant in harsh climatic conditions that characterize Pantelleria for 9/10 months a year.
