Steering Committee

The serial property “Arab-Norman Palermo and the Cathedrals of Cefalù and Monreale” is a very complex and composite reality, defined by a set of monuments concerning different types of properties and management.
In order to prepare a unique and coordinated management system for the property, a “Memorandum of Understanding” has been drawn up which identifies the management system of the UNESCO property, as follows:

  1. the Management Plan, the declaration of principles and actions related to the protection and enhancement of the property, to which the institutions and the Communities commit to comply;
  2. the Steering Committee, which represents the owners, the managers and the main institutional subjects involved in various ways in the management. It is composed by the signatories of the act itself. Its task is to indicate the annual activities to be carried out for the enhancement of the property and for the application of the Management Plan.
  3. the Operational Structure identified in the UNESCO Sicily Heritage Foundation, has the task to activate the decisions of the Steering Committee, to implement the guidelines and objectives contained in the Management Plan, to draw up and implement both the three-year activity plan and the property monitoring.

The “Memorandum of Understanding” has officially been operational since February 20, 2015, when it was signed by all the members of the Steering Committee:
